FAQ's
My doctor said I should see a therapist....Why?

It is likely that your doctor recognizes that you are distressed and that therapy or counseling
could help you become yourself again. Or it may mean you need treatment for an addiction
-- mostly it means that your doctor feels that you could be helped to have a
better life.

What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist? I am a Psychologist.

A psychiatrist
is a physician who prescribes medication; a psychologist provides
psychotherapy.
They work together to provide mental health treatment to improve your life.

How can you work with my child when he/she is so young?

Young children can be very affected by their life and feel sadness, anger, confusion. They
are often not able to talk about their distress but they act it out in play.
Play therapy allows
children to work through their difficulties and to recover from them.

How long will this take?

Therapy takes time, sometimes several months. However, this does not mean that you
won't feel better or achieve changes till it's over. Therapy begins during the first session and
you are likely to
feel improvements in your life very quickly.

How often do I have to come?

For therapy to be effective, weekly or bi-weekly visits are recommended. When goals are
reached, sessions can be more spaced out, with phasing out to monthly before finishing.
